Be ready. Be prepared. Deal with it.

Things are going to happen. You've been warned.

Things will happen out of the blue. You may be caught off guard, or it might hurt you. Sometimes it takes time to get your wits about you, to make sense of it all and to bounce back.

But you're not blameless here. You probably had plenty of warning. Haven't you read a history book, or a memoir? These things happen to people. They've been happening for thousands of years. Did you think you were special, or exempt? The Stoics warned you. Many times, in fact.

Just because it caught you by surprise, and just because it wasn't what you wanted, doesn't mean it came out of the blue. It doesn't mean it was unusual. It doesn't mean it was unfair. You were warned, and you are being warned again.

Things happen, and things are going to happen to you. Be ready. Be prepared. Deal with it.

A note on sources

Much of what I've learned about Stoicism comes from Ryan Holiday. Find more of his writing at dailystoic.com and ryanholiday.net.

While I have edited much of this content, there are some cases where I have taken Ryan Holiday's words directly. I've included them because I think they are powerful and will be helpful for you. They are also helpful for me, and I've put them here so I can learn and understand more myself.
