Writing and family history

A book on marketing in sport, and a place to keep the family story.

● THE BOOK

Game Plan Marketing

Why there's never been a better time to grow your sports organisation, and what to do to make it happen. Published 2013.

“I wrote this book from 12 years of working for and leading sports organisations. Over the years I discovered many sports organisations have great products, but their marketing sucks! I wanted to give them practical advice to help build viable, sustainable businesses that serve their communities.”

Game Plan Marketing offers a simple, five-step approach to developing a compelling brand message, using effective marketing systems and finding revenue opportunities. It's written for small to medium sports organisations that want to punch above their marketing weight on a smaller budget.

Most of Ned's writing comes back to having a Game Plan for life: knowing how you'll achieve what you want, and bringing in the people, resources and ideas to help you do it.

● FAMILY HISTORY

The Coten family story

“This part of the site is a little indulgent. It's here so our family history is available to anyone who wants it.

My mother, Meg Coten, spent many years compiling information about her side of our family. That includes her own story of growing up on the family farm, her youth, radar operations during World War 2, travelling in Europe after the war and bringing us up in Australia's outback. It's an amazing life story, and I've always been grateful for what she passed on to me.

I know almost nothing about my father's side of the family. He passed away when I was five and had lost touch with his family in the UK. His name was John Francis Coten, and his father served in the British Army. If you have any information, I'd love to hear from you.”
