Be the saviour you'd have otherwise waited around for

Nobody is coming to fix it. Get active in your own rescue.

Command yourself. Get your body under control. Eliminate the vices that weaken you. Be useful to others. Build skills that last, no matter what the world throws at you. Make a difference where you can.

There's plenty to be outraged by and plenty to fear. AI disruption. Job uncertainty. Economic instability. Political chaos. It's natural to want someone, anyone, to step in and fix it. But they're not going to. That's not how this works.

“

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.

LEO TOLSTOY

Kierkegaard put it more sharply: “It has often been said that a reformation should begin with each person reforming themself.”

We don't control what other people do. We don't control what's happening in the world around us. We do control what we do, and how we respond. We have to get active in our own rescue. It's our job. Nobody else's.

Be the saviour you'd have otherwise waited around for. So let's get after it.

TRY THIS TODAY

Name one problem you've been waiting for someone else to fix. Write down one thing you could do about it yourself, then do it.

A note on sources

Much of what I've learned about Stoicism comes from Ryan Holiday. Find more of his writing at dailystoic.com and ryanholiday.net.

While I have edited much of this content, there are some cases where I have taken Ryan Holiday's words directly. I've included them because I think they are powerful and will be helpful for you. They are also helpful for me, and I've put them here so I can learn and understand more myself.
