Don't suffer imagined troubles

Stick with the situation at hand.

Marcus Aurelius reminded himself not to be overwhelmed by everything that might happen.

“

Don't let your imagination be crushed by life as a whole. Stick with the situation at hand.

MARCUS AURELIUS

Focus on the moment. Waste no time thinking about the monsters that may or may not be up ahead. As Seneca put it, “We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.”

Don't suffer imagined troubles.

TRY THIS TODAY

When you catch yourself worrying about something that hasn't happened, ask: what's actually in front of me right now? Deal with that.

A note on sources

Much of what I've learned about Stoicism comes from Ryan Holiday. Find more of his writing at dailystoic.com and ryanholiday.net.

While I have edited much of this content, there are some cases where I have taken Ryan Holiday's words directly. I've included them because I think they are powerful and will be helpful for you. They are also helpful for me, and I've put them here so I can learn and understand more myself.
